The Ġgantija Temples in Xagħra, Gozo, are among the most significant archaeological sites in the world. Dating back to between 3600 and 3200 BC, these two megalithic structures are older than the pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge.

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the temples were built from massive coralline limestone blocks, some weighing over 50 tons. Legend has it that the temples were built by a giantess who lived on a diet of broad beans and honey—hence the name ‘Ġgantija’, meaning ‘belonging to giants’.
